Appointed rep of the University of Oxford 2001. Elected member EMBO, 2010. Fellow of American Academy of Microbiology, 2011. Elected Fellow of Society of Biology, 2011. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society, 2013. Appointed a member of the Governing Body for a period of 6 years, 2015. Elected President of the Microbiology Society for 3 years from January 2019.
