We are very pleased to report that Lister Fellow Aga Gambus of the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at the University of Birmingham was awarded a Wellcome Investigator Award earlier this year.
Wellcome Trust Investigator Awards are provided every year to outstanding researchers who have demonstrated the capability to make a significant and lasting impact on their field through high-quality research.
Dr Aga Gambus is Group Leader of the Chromosomal replication team at the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences.
Dr Gambus has used the support of the Wellcome Trust and the Lister Institute to progress understanding in the field of replisome unloading.
Her group were the first to discover elements of the replication machinery dissembly mechanism which plays a role in the termination of DNA replication. This important finding is paving the way for new areas of enquiry and understanding in biotechnology.
Dr Gambus has an MSc in Biotechnology from Jagiellonian University in Poland and a PhD in Cancer Research from University of Manchester in the UK.
We are very pleased to support the work of Dr Gambus in this crucial area and we are delighted to hear about her recent award.
