The Lister Prize has increased to £300,000 and applications for 2025 are now open

From 2024 onwards, the Lister Prize includes flexible funding of £300,000 for each recipient. This is an increase from the £250,000 offered in previous years.

Each year, we award the Lister Prize to a small group of early-career researchers working in preventive medicine. The winners receive the funding as well as entering a Lister Fellowship that connects them to the supportive and inspiring Lister community.  There are typically around six prize winners each year.

Former winners say that the flexibility of the Lister Prize is unique. It doesn’t restrict them to a specific area of science or medicine and can be used to cover various costs. That might include buying laboratory equipment, funding a replacement lecturer, or providing research group member salaries (though not the winner’s own salary).

“We are very pleased to be able to increase the funding available to new Fellows this year. We hope the additional money will allow the new Lister Fellows to accomplish even more as they work towards improving health and medicine,” said Professor Julian Blow, Chair of the Scientific Committee.

Applications for the 2025 Lister Prize  run from Monday 8th July 2024 and close at midnight on Monday 23rd September 2024. We will then interview shortlisted candidates on Wednesday 14th May 2025 in London.
