New for 2020: Summer Studentships – a partnership with the Microbiology Society offers Lister fellows the opportunity to win a joint studentship to develop their research in the field of anti-microbial resistance, as well as giving promising undergraduates the opportunity to experience high-quality research in this vital field.
The Lister Institute is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Microbiology Society to support undergraduates undertaking antimicrobial resistance research projects next summer (in 2020) and to help celebrate the Microbiology Society’s 75th anniversary. Successful fellows will receive up to £3,000 to support a summer student for innovative projects tackling antimicrobial resistance across the spectrum of microorganisms.Each year the Lister Institute awards up to forty studentships to fellows to support undergraduate students undertaking summer projects. This scheme helps students to gain their first experience of working in a laboratory and enables them to present their work at the Annual Scientific Meeting. This meeting offers a superb opportunity for the students to meet with current Lister Fellows along with Lister alumni and trustees, some of the most eminent scientists in the UK, hopefully inspiring them to a career in science.
We are delighted to partner with the Microbiology Society in their anniversary year on up to five summer studentships focusing on addressing antimicrobial resistance using a multi-disciplinary approach.
The Microbiology Society was established in 1945. It is a membership charity for scientists interested in microbes, their effects and their practical uses. It is one of the largest microbiology societies in Europe with a worldwide membership based in universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes and schools.
It will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2020 and will hold a wide-ranging programme of events and activities to showcase why microbiology matters and to demonstrate the impact of microbiologists past, present and future during 2020.
